13 June 2017, Rumah Pengasih Kuala Lumpur – PENGASIH organised a Majlis Berbuka Puasa in conjunction with Ramadan here today. Y.B Dato’ Seri Azalina Othman Said was greeted by Datuk Yunus Pathi and Datuk Misah Nor (volunteer to Rumah Pengasih) when the minister arrived here at 6:30pm. The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department was taken on facility tour by Yeop and Datuk Misah.
Both staff and residents prepared for Ifthar, a religious observance of Muslims who gather to break fast as a community during the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
Yeop in his speech spoke about how the new generation of drug users (referring to methamphetamine users) like taking shortcuts. They are not willing to go through the process of working towards being successful which involves patience, resilience and hard-work. Instead they want the end result minus the effort. Before thanking the minister for her support Yeop stressed that drugs are not the problem instead those who abuse drugs are.
Dato’ Seri Azalina commended Yeop for being the pillar behind the success of Rumah Pengasih. She then explained that there are approximately 1000 inmates in prisons on death row across the country waiting to be executed for drug related offences. These unsuspecting scapegoats are recruited by international drug syndicates as drug mules. Dato’ Seri also reminded everyone present that recovery is about practising moderation. The Law Minister hopes that the residents of Rumah Pengasih will return to society soon.
Dato’ Seri Azalina presented Rumah Pengasih with a cheque of RM100 000.00.
A hearty dinner was then served. Dinner was sponsored by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur together with the canopy.
The crowd of 350 people dispersed soon after dinner.
